Buckles on side, can be difficult to put on and take off
Rating: 4/5
I got the first one from my doctor on insurance, and went for the exact match for the second foot. (Insurance only covers one.) But, it was helping the first foot so much that it seemed clear I needed to be using them on both feet. The instructions that come with these are just a very simple diagram, that would benefit from some explanation. I find it is worth releasing the hook and loop on each strap each time I put them on. Buckle the strap, then tighten the hook and loop. The loop portion is attached to the pad, which slides. It needs to be all the way on the buckle side of the strap, or it will loosen. When I pull the strap tight, I have my middle finger under it so it gives me the right amount of wiggle room. The diagram shows how you need to start at the ankle strap, go to the foot strap, then fasten the calf strap. I believe it also shows first buckling, then doing the hook and loop, but without words for a long time I thought that was just the first time. Besides getting the three straps right, there are the side support straps. I find I almost never need to adjust those. I adjusted them at the beginning to get the right amount of support for me, and now only if they get opened. (Such as by a kid.) If you have really thick ankles, I think the strap might be short. Mine are not thin, but not super thick and I have very little room left in the ankle strap. I think this is because of the way it is decorated. I do not know if they experimented with putting loop closure on the strap as well as the pad, but it seems to me it would help. I would like to be able to choose the pad position, but that does not work. There is definitely some fuss involved in getting these splints on, but for me it is worth it. I would like to see the company make some improvements in the closures. And, I have not tried another brand to tell you how it compares.

If you're looking at this item, you probably have plantar fasciitis. If you have plantar fasciitis, I feel for you and I am sorry because it is an absolutely awful condition. I purchased two of these for myself after previously purchasing one of the harder "boot" style night splints. I could not get any amount of restful sleep with the boot style, even though I could feel the relief in my feet the next day. These airform night splints are much more comfortable and allowed me to sleep through the night while also allowing me to feel the relief in my foot pain the next day. I used them every night for months, and at this point, they are just falling apart. The material that wraps around my foot is shredded and torn, and the velcro at the top that wraps around my leg simply doesn't stay in place anymore. Usually when I wear these at night now, they come undone at the top.Velcro is flawed like that, but I think part of the problem is that I am 6'5" and I am maybe just too large for these night splints. It's a shame because it is a great product, but simply offering a medium and a large is not sufficient in my eyes. The one size fits all approach, which I encounter often in my life being so tall, is a bit of a let down and kind of upsetting. It's a great product, but don't expect to get a lot of mileage out of it.

It took me two uses to figure out the right velcro adjustment that works for my foot, but once I did, the three clip-on straps are easy to put on, and the padding works excellently to keep me comfortable enough while I'm using it. My doctor suggests two hours every day while I'm sitting down watching TV or something. Though it's not really meant for walking, I can move around my room, and go to the restroom, but that's about it. Now I'm just waiting for the plantar fasciitis-healing therapeutic results from it, so that part I can't review. But my doctor recommended it because of his other patients successful results after use of it, so I look forward to the same.

First impression review. I have struggled with Achilles tendon pain for over 5 months. The last 2 weeks I've been in Japan on business. The pain became so bad I began limping and learned to say "itai" Japanese for "painful". The aspirin I brought to Japan wouldn't dull the pain, so I spent my free time looking for some contraption that might help me avoid surgery. Under $20 with free shipping. Figured worth a try. I limped home yesterday, tried it on.Construction: Good, strap buckles aren't the greatest, I figure care should be taken to not break due to overtightening Comfort: The strap pads and main foot pad are VERY comfortable. I put it on, tightened it too much, and was in agony. Took it off after about 30 min with no feeling in my toes. I thought "I have to make this work or go to the doctor". I loosened the straps and tried again with a less aggressive approach. Viola! I was able to relax and wore it most of Saturday evening. Later last night I walked without a limp for the first time in two weeks!!! Today is Sunday, I've spent all day in bed resting, and hoping for the best. Verdict: 1st 24 hours? Best $20 I've spent in a long time. So far, prolonged stretching of the Achilles seems to be the right therapy for me. Not sure about long term. For now, no regrets.

I'd like to start this review by stating that I've had unbearable Plantar Fasciitis for almost exactly a year in my right foot. I've tried so many different shoes and insoles and wraps and braces and stretches and massages, and nothing made much difference to the intense pain I would feel every morning and about halfway through my shifts at work (40 hrs/week on my feet). My next step after consulting with my doctor was to have x-rays done on my foot to see if a bone spur was causing the pain, and barring that, receiving a cortisone shot in my foot.Being anxious about the cost of x-rays and more doctor visits, I turned to the internet for any other suggestions and found recommendations for splints such as this one. I figured spending an extra ~$20 couldn't hurt in the long run - if this helped, I'll have saved hundred on extra treatments! If it didn't help, it's just a drop in the bucket at this point. The first night after it was delivered went okay. To try and get used to it, I just wore it while I was on the couch watching TV. I noticed how it stretched my foot out and felt a small amount of relief. I learned quickly that while walking in this splint is possible, it's fairly uncomfortable and I only do it now if I have to get up to use the bathroom in the middle of the night.Sleeping in this splint is awful for me. I never could sleep with anything on my feet, even sheets or socks, and now I have to try and force myself to sleep while wearing a big plastic "boot". It's difficult to keep it on some nights, and some nights I get annoyed and rip it off in the middle of the night. Sometimes I have to take a little bit of Zzzquil just to be able to fall asleep while wearing it. For me, the comfort level is certainly not ideal. It's bulky stiff plastic that gets kind of warm, and my foot doesn't like to sit at a perfect 90° angle in it unless I keep the Velcro straps tight enough to cut off circulation and make my foot numb. I've found a "happy medium" where my heel raises out of the heel section just a little bit, and the straps aren't way too tight, and it still seems to be effective. As uncomfortable as this thing is to wear, I force myself to sleep in it about 80% of the time because it really does help with my Plantar Fasciitis. I have a little bit of stiffness in my foot in the morning, but nowhere near the amount of pain I normally would have. I can make it through an entire shift at work without limping, though I still have noticeable discomfort around 6 hours into my shifts (keep in mind that I spend my entire 8 hour shifts on my feet with no comfort mats, and I only get a single 10min break to sit down during my shift). When I get out of my car after work, I don't have to hobble to my door anymore.I'm hoping that with continued use of this splint, my condition will improve enough that I never have to make those doctor appointments for this issue. I just wish the splint was smaller, or lighter, or didn't absorb my body heat so much... anything to make it more comfortable to wear overnight!

Just received this product and it does seem good and I believe in giving it a try. My problem is I can only wear it on my left foot and need them (I bought two) for both feet, mostly my right foot. I can get the boot on my left foot with Great Ease, just lift leg. buckle up and adjust straps. As for my right foot, it took me over 5 mins. struggling to keep the splint on and trying to reach the buckles. It was so frustrating I was brought to tears. I am a little heavy and can't bend over to the floor. I can bring my foot up to lap but the buckles are on the outside of splint And THAT IS the whole PROBLEM. They should have right and left leg splints with buckles on the inside of the splint. If you need this product for your right foot please don't buy it unless you are very limber.

Force yourself to wear it! This is the first night splint I've worn. Force yourself to wear it! The first two mornings I woke up to find this splint on the floor. Force yourself to wear it! It feels really comfortable until you wake up in the middle of the night and something hurts (not comfortable to wear anything on your feet while you sleep). Force yourself to wear it! After 2 nights I woke up with it on my foot, thought adjusted to be very loose. Force yourself to wear it! For 2 nights I woke up with it on, sometimes a part of my foot hurt so I adjusted the splint to be looser. Force yourself to wear it! For the past 3 days, as soon as I've gotten home from work I've put on the splint and kept it on until morning. I can now walk all day without pain. Force yourself to wear it! For the past 2 days I have not felt that constant burn of Plantar Fasciitis pain. Force yourself to wear it! I am trying to avoid getting cortisone shots in my heel because I realize that my heel is not suffering from a cortisone deficiency. I am convinced that this splint will allow me to rehab my Plantar Ligament on the cheap. I am wearing the splint at the first daily opportunity, for as long as possible, and following the stretching guidelines on the American Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Society.[...]

Wow this product is amazing. I have plantar fasciitis in both feet, and for two years I have tried all sorts of orthotic shoe inserts, wraps, exercises with no relief. I purchased two braces- one for each foot. My feet hurt so bad, I hobbled when I got up. The braces are a little hard to get used to sleeping at night, especially if you wear both. So I ended up wearing one during the evening while I was sitting, and the other during sleep. My right foot wasn't as inflamed and within two weeks I was able to wear the brace intermittently. My left foot took a few months to heal. Keeping my foot in this brace position allowed all the micro tears to heal. Now I only wear the brace if I over due it walking too much. During the day, I make sure I am wearing orthotic slippers or shoes. My barefoot and flip flop days are over. I wear a woman's size 8.5 shoe and felt the size medium was large. The brace extends about two or three inches past my toes. They still worked wonders. It feels wonderful to be able to stand up and walk without pain or hobbling! I can't say enough good things about this brace.

The good news is - this really works and my plantar fasciitis is gone after using it for two weeks. The bad news is - it is really a pain to use. I bought it because this is my second round with plantar fasciitis, and the night splint I used previously - with a hard plastic mold that fit on top of the foot and velcro straps under my foot and around my calf - no longer worked. I don't know how it happened, but I started to wake up in the night with my foot out of that splint. I needed something my foot could not escape, and this splint meets that criteria. However, it is a pain to put on, requiring you to lean all the way down to fasten three buckles. The instructions that came with it say you should never walk in it, but that makes middle-of-the-night bathroom trips a nightmare. I can see why they say not to walk - with your foot in the flexed position, your knee is not in alignment and you put a lot of strain on your knee. However, I was unwilling to undo all three buckles in the middle of the night and then try to re-fasten them in the dark without waking my husband. I determined that the "safest" way for me to walk is backwards. It sounds strange, but as I said in the first sentence, my plantar fasciitis is gone so who cares? It's also difficult to fall asleep with this contraption on your foot, so you might consider some melatonin, lavender essential oil or even a Tylenol PM to try to help you fall asleep. But walking without pain is worth all of this to me!

I didn't find this product helpful. I couldn't tolerate wearing it at night - usually at some point I would wake up thinking I was being attacked and throw it out of bed after a heroic struggle. The sizing instructions were not at all helpful. The foot size seemed fine, but the top-most strap was not long enough to fit around my monster calves - they really should figure that into the sizing chart (or better yet, just make the straps really long). It was not hard to buckle the ankle strap and foot strap for my right foot since the buckles were on the inside (on the left side of the boot). But when I tried putting it on the left, it was an exhausting task that took way more time than it should have. They should probably have buckles on each side so you don't have to deal with that. Or else plan on having someone help you. Too bad if you're single. On the positive side, the boot seemed to be well-constructed. The buckles worked fine, there was padding over the straps to make wearing it less uncomfortable. If it fits you properly and you can stand wearing it, I suspect it will hold up for years.

So I have been dealing with plantar fasciitis on and off for about 2 years now. Recently they started to really flare up and I finally decided to try some products out. Since I go snowboarding every weekend, I didn't want this pain to hold me back. I tried this night splint for the first time last night and I can already tell, I am walking like a normal person again. The only reason I give this 4 stars instead of 5 is because it does get a bit uncomfortable. I am generally a light to medium sleeper and I woke up in the middle of the night to take the splint off because it just felt awkward and I figured a few hours of it on was sufficient for the night. When I finally fully woke up in the morning, I was able to get out of bed to turn off my alarm without any pain. Awesome. Imagine waking up in the morning to an annoying alarm and the first thing you feel is pain in your foot getting out of bed. I'm sure I will get used to the uncomfortable and awkward feeling over time.
